Tactical Courses of Fire
In 2016 we will hold either a Tactical Handgun, Tactical Rifle, or Tactical Shotgun Course each month, usually from 1 to 5pm on a Sunday afternoon. Each course will include two hours of classroom instruction, zeroing your rifle and patterning your shotgun, then shooting one of those courses as many times as you desire. Watch our CALENDAR for times and dates.
Each Course of Fire will include running, pop-up silhouette, and metal targets. You may use any repeating firearm and as much ammo as you desire (no tracer, steel core, or armor piercing ammo allowed).
The purpose of these courses is to teach you how to fight with your firearms. Each course requires you to use tactical techniques, but we do not allow you to run. These are not physically demanding courses.
You will be scored on time, bad guys shot, friendlies shot, and tactical errors. The Handgun and Rifle Courses of Fire allow two people to shoot simultaneously, so you can shoot against your buddy.
Cost is $29 the first time you attend a course and $15 thereafter. After taking a course for $29, you do not have to repeat the classroom session, so you may come just for the $15 shooting session and shoot the course as many
times as you want.
Pre-registration is not required. If we post it on our Calendar, it will be held. Come and shoot the only courses of fire in Mississippi that include Running and Reactive Pop-Up Targets, and have fun while getting ready for the real thing.
Our facility is available for rental based on the following rates and conditions:
Please contact us by email to discuss your particular needs.
Staff and Instructors
Our staff and instructors include men and women who are experienced in competition, gunsmithing, law enforcement, military combat, classroom instruction, and running ranges. They possess extensive state, national, and world certifications, and some have won state, regional, and national championships. They are well qualified to provide outstanding basic and advanced handgun, rifle, and shotgun training.
In addition to our regularly scheduled classes, we can also tailor private or group instruction to meet your specific needs, including security guard training.
Facility and Ranges
We have an air-conditioned classroom, two handgun ranges, one rimfire rifle range, two centerfire rifle ranges, and a tactical shotgun range. Two of our ranges have concrete tables with covered firing line, and three ranges have running and pop-up targets. We also have a small lake stocked with bass, bream, and channel catfish adjacent to a wooded campsite.
We require a minimum of five participants for a class to "make" and a maximum of either 10 or 15 depending upon the type of class.
We are located at the intersection of I-20 and Hwy 501 at Forest, MS, which is 45 miles from Jackson to the west and Meridian to the east. Forest has four motels, several restaurants and fast-foods, and a public airport within two to four miles of our location. We are ten miles from Roosevelt State Park, 20 miles from Yogi Bear RV Park, and 60 miles from the Silver Star and Golden Moon Casinos at Choctaw, MS.
Precision Shooting Center was initially named Sherman Hill Shooting Center for General William Tecumseh Sherman. In February of 1864, during the American Civil War, General Sherman led 20,000 infantry and cavalry across central Mississippi from Vicksburg to Meridian, then back to Vicksburg. His goal was to destroy the deep South's ability and desire to continue the war by ravaging every thing in his path and by taking everything that could be used by his soldiers. This he did, unopposed by General Leonidas Polk, commander of 10,000 Confederate infantry and cavalry, who retired to Selma, Alabama without firing an infantry rifle at the Union forces.
General Sherman also used this same tactic during his famous March To The Sea across Georgia and up the eastern seaboard. Thus did General Sherman become the most hated Union general by the South during the Civil War.
As a young boy I climbed a hill just south of this facility named Sherman Hill for the Yankees who camped there during Sherman's infamous Mississippi march. And, I found a Union Zouave sword bayonet just north of these ranges. To Georgia's credit, they used Sherman's notoriety as the basis for a movie (Gone With The Wind) and a song (Tara's Theme). Mississippi got only this shooting facility. Come shoot with us on one of the most historical sites in Mississippi.
